More about this item
One of our woodworking artisans is a pro with fire. She has put together a few items for us, one of which being this grand wood burning image of a nude woman. Here is a statement from the artist herself:
"I chose to work on wood because of its organic features. The knots on the wood and the fluidity of its lines reminded me of patterns I usually make in my other pieces. I wanted to depict a juxtaposition between a natural element and a human feeling. Often times as people we feel torn and our feelings will have a heavy hand in our decisions. In nature it’s just a simple fact of ‘it is what it is’.
The process of wood burning is organic in itself. Making mistakes was rare because it would all just flow within each other, no matter how much pressure or weight you put on it. It’s very forgiving, like people.
I draw inspiration from nature and its interaction with people, or the connection one would have with nature if we paid closer attention. This piece expresses how a feeling can absorb a person and, at the same time, how one will try to expel it. Through breathing or, in this case a sigh, letting energy in and out is an attribute found in all living things one way or another. The girl’s hair is an extension of herself, like a relationship between a tree and it’s branches, it grows."
This piece measures 4 feet square (and is less than 1 inch thick).
